New Bill Will Set Guidelines for Clean Up of Meth Labs

Tuesday, March 6, 2007

A bill introduced into the Ohio House today would help protect potential tenants and homebuyers from properties that have been used to manufacture the street drug methamphetamine. These so-called meth labs can be nearly as injurious to the health of later occupants as taking the drug itself. The new law will create a public list of former meth labs and require the Ohio EPA to create standards for cleaning up these sites. But deciding on the level of clean-up needed to protect human health is difficult.

Listener Comments:

Living in the 'heart' of a neighborhood that, is well known for 'meth' trafficking I've seen homes/apartments rented/sold without being cleaned up accordingly after many meth labs bust's on the property's. I, suggested a bill similar to this locally and, to our state legislators some time ago.

Hopefully, the Bill will help the Police/City Administration and, the neighborhoods reduce crime and, increase property values.

The 'proposed' bill is LONG overdue but, necessary for many reasons: it forces landlords/property owners to properly clean up their property accordingly after a 'meth' bust, forces landlords/owners from renting and/or, selling their property to unsuspecting tenants/buyer, prevents crime in the neighborhood and, most importantly helps reduce crime.

I, live in a neighborhood that has had 'many' meth lab's busted and, one home blew off it's foundation due to the owner not securing his property.

Thank you Legislators, Police Officers and, Government Entity's for finally doing something positive about meth labs/traffickers.
