Ohio To Revamp Mental Health Approach
Wednesday, December 21, 2005
With the help of a 12-million dollar federal grant, Ohio has launched a study aimed at totally revamping the way mental health services are provided. A task force with representatives of several state agencies is doing the study and plans to make recommendations next year. Governor Bob Taft says Ohio is already recognized as a national leader in mental health reform because many years ago, the state closed down many of the large state mental hospitals. But he adds, the new system, that's more community-based, still has drawbacks.

Mental health officials note every year in Ohio more than two million people have some kind of mental illness or emotional disturbance.
