Kent State vigil for shooting victims in western PA

About 300 people gathered at Kent State for a vigil in memory of the victims shot to death at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill, outside Pittsburgh.  

There was song, along with prayers and words of remembrance.

The deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue over the weekend has left local Jewish communities searching for answers. An Akron rabbi said his congregation is still in shock but looking to take action.

A group of Akron leaders revealed a new plan for economic development at a special Akron Roundtable event Monday. A panel of community leaders told the crowd that too many people have to leave Akron to get to work.

Their new initiative, Elevate Akron, will focus on increasing job opportunities locally and improving collaboration. A study they conducted shows that Akron’s economy is too traditional and needs to promote more entrepreneurship and innovation.

At the only debate in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District race, the candidates collided on the expected issues: healthcare, tax cuts and national security. But the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting also came up.
