Democrat Sherrod Brown, the winner in the race, says the auto rescue bailout he and President Obama supported is important to Ohio….not only in terms of jobs saved but also because it was an example of a time when Brown said he had to make a decision that he believed was right….even if it wasn’t politically expedient.

Brown – It was clear that voters in Ohio and Michigan, if I recall, didn’t even like the idea of this auto rescue let alone voters in states that had significantly fewer auto related jobs even though every state has auto jobs.  So I think it’s a question of character, of leadership.

Brown’s opponent, Josh Mandel, says his beliefs in the greater good for Ohio were what fueled his campaign as well.

Mandel - We believed in issues that affect regular families around this state and country every day.  And we also believed in this great country.

Mandel lost by about five points.  He says he looks forward to continuing to serve as the state’s treasurer.  He ran for the senate seat in mid term.
