| Earlier this week, the company that makes Jeeps criticized a Mitt Romney campaign ad, airing in Ohio, as misleading. Now, a second automaker is saying the same thing about another Romney ad. The arguments are over new auto jobs and where they’re being created. Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen reports. |
The Romney radio ad says GM lost 15,000 US jobs and now the company plans to add 15,000 jobs in China. GM’s response: “We’ve clearly entered some parallel universe. No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the US.”
The company says it is not shifting US jobs to China. Instead, it is growing jobs both places, including 18,000 new American jobs. A liberal think tank linked to Democrats calls the ad so misleading, it amounts to a lie. But Romney spokesman Chris Maloney says the general thrust is on target.
“Especially in a time in which we have a sluggish national economy, there is no reason why these American cars can’t be made by American hands,” Maloney says. |
