Wednesday, September 12, 2012 Comeback Initiative hits battleground Ohio with tough budget proposals Campaign to cap debt and deficit hopes to capitalize on focus on Ohio by WKSU's M.L. SCHULTZE This story is part of a special series.
Web Editor M.L. Schultze
In The Region:
Ohio is being targeted by more than just the presidential campaigns – perhaps because it is being targeted by the presidential campaigns.
Saturday, the Comeback America Initiative will be in Strongsville for the first of two town halls it’s holding nationwide. It’s pressing its campaign for fiscal responsibility. WKSU’s M.L. Schultze spoke with the former U.S. Comptroller General who is heading a campaign that includes points both Democrats and Republicans are embracing – and running from.
David Walker was appointed comptroller general by both Democratic and Republican presidents. And though he flirted last year with running as a Republican for one of Connecticut’s U.S. Senate seats, he’s remained pretty much and independent.
And he’s been warning about a U.S. financial crisis since midway through the last decade. He now runs the Comeback America Initiative, which is pushing financial reforms that include both an overhaul of Medicare and tax hikes.
It’s a message he’s bringing – via a bus tour -- to Northeast Ohio this week.
That’s David Walker, the former U.S. comptroller general who oversaw the government accountability office. For links to the Comeback Initiative, go to WKSU.org
