In The Region: Some Ohioans hoping to watch Barack Obama give his acceptance speech in Charlotte tonight will have to watch it on TV. A strong rain came down this afternoon in the city where the President was to speak at the Carolina Panthers’ stadium. Ohio Democratic Party spokesman Jerid Kurtz said it’s a disappointment for many. |
"The location for the president's acceptance speech has been moved back to Time Warner Arena where we've been for the duration of the week. Unfortunately because of that move 50,000 seats were lost. And people had traveled from Ohio and other locations to Ohio to hear the president speak."
There are nearly 225 people with the Ohio delegation and not all have passes to the arena. The state party has set up a watch party at one of the downtown clubs.
A recurring annoyance for all the delegates during this rainy week is that the Secret Service has been confiscating folding umbrellas from delegates anywhere near the convention.
