Polls show a statistical tie for the two Republican presidential front-runners in Ohio.  Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney started the day in Canton, talking about his plans for scaling back government by eliminating some programs and turning over others, such as Medicaid.

"I want to take those dollars, block grant them back to the state, and let Ohio's Governor and legislature figure out the best way to care for Ohio's own people.  I believe that Ohio can do a better job caring for Ohioans than the federal government can."

Romney never mentioned Rick Santorum by name, and made only one passing reference to him and the other GOP hopefuls.

But when Santorum hit Northeast Ohio Monday night, he took on Romney directly and repeatedly, drawing parallels between the healthcare overhaul in Massachusetts under then-Gov. Romney and a similar overhaul nationally under President Obama.

"There are 15 things, in a recent report, that Romneycare advocated, that are identical to what Obamacare put in place.  It's one thing to put in a government-run healthcare program while you were governer of a state.  If the policy's bad, the policy's bad."

Romney’s campaign has outspent Santorum’s 12-1 in Ohio. And some of that advantage was clear in Monday’s events themselves.

Romney had enough electronics and provisions for scores of reporters and photographers. Reporters covering Santorum had to try to get sound from small public address speakers in the back.
