WKSU presents "Holiday Stories from The Gundie Journal"

characters you meet bear a striking resemblance to members of your own family. WKSU presents “Holiday Stories from The Gundie Journal.”
– Joe Gunderman (“Gundie”)

Here’s a thought, if you told writers, “Create something about the Holidays to be presented on the radio. Any or all Holidays in December. That’s your only direction. Now, go.”
What would they come up with?
That’s what a literary magazine does. No themes, no editorial asking for specific plots or subject matters, just a space, a forum, where imagination can run in any direction.
The Gundie Weekly Journal, published as a ‘zine from 1984 thru 1995 and attracting well over 100 writers, poets and cartoonists, was such a forum. As the editor, I didn’t know what direction each issue would take until the writers sent me their creations. Then I worked with them to make it the best the writer could present.
And so, transfer this idea to radio.

After adding my directing, recording and editing experience, add two important elements: The best actors available, and good musicians, to make the writers’ ideas work in audio.
So what did they come up with? Sentiment or silliness? It turns out that Marc Jaffe, Angela Johnson, Laurel Winter, Doug Sutherland and Mike Derrick do like to laugh. Of course, there is meaning in their humor. So we have a funny hour of stories for you.
Ray McNiece is a poet, and he gives us vivid word pictures of the season, again augmented with wonderful sound played by his nephew and performance partner, Sean Kelly.
So come along for an hour of Holiday stories you’ve never heard before. You might find some of the                       .
