Most people know Lewis Black as the comedic king of rant who mostly brochettes politics. Originally from Maryland, Black became interested in drama in high school. While at the university of North Carolina in the late 60s, Black began writing plays. He later went to the esteemed Yale School of Drama, graduating with a master’s degree in 1977.
Lewis continued his playwright career as the playwright-in-residence and artistic director of West Bank Café Downstairs Theater Bar. By the mid-1980s, Black was a comedian on the rise. He was even appearing in films such as Woody Allen’s Hannah and Her Sister.
Black’s career exploded in the 1990s when he became a guest analyst on The Daily Show. His success on the show led to numerous stand-up specials on HBO and has won him awards, including a Grammy for Best Comedy Album for The Carnegie Hall Performance.
