Last summer, veteran reporter Audie Cornish was named the new host of NPR's Weekend Edition Sunday, taking over Liane Hansen's chair after her retirement. At the start of 2012, Cornish makes another move as the temporary co-host of All Things Considered. This change follows Michele Norris' decision to step away from her post through November as her husband works on Barack Obama's reelection campaign. Cornish is expected to return to Weekend Edition in 2013.
Prior to moving into the role of host, Cornish reported from Capitol Hill for NPR News, covering issues in both the House and Senate and specializing in financial industry policy. She came to Washington, D.C. from Nashville, where Cornish covered a 10-state territory in the South for NPR. Before coming to NPR, Cornish was a reporter for Boston's award-winning public radio station WBUR.
Cornish says, "As the host, you are really the voice of the listener and trying to ask the questions that they are thinking and you are part of the story in whatever interview you are doing. That takes some getting used to when you are like me - prone to ducking out of view. After years of basically being a solo act as a reporter, it's so refreshing to work with other people who are teeming with ideas."
Hear WKSU's local broadcasts of NPR's All Things Considered on Mondays through Fridays from 4 through 6:30 p.m.
