Akron Symphony Celebrates 60 Years


For 60 years, the Akron Symphony Orchestra has presented professional classical music concerts in Akron, from the flagship Classics series and Pops to special events, including Gospel Meets Symphony and Concerts for Kids. WKSU members can buy a half-price ticket when purchasing one at full-price (offer not valid for subscription packages, for special events, concerts for kids or with other discount offers). All concerts at 8 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Hall, except where noted. Find more information at www.akronsymphony.org.

Sept. 17 - Opening Night (including highlights from Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet)
Oct. 15 - Opera's Greatest Moments (opera favorites with guest soloists)
Nov. 12 - Ben, Beethoven and Brahms (featuring guest conductor Ben Zander)
Jan. 21 - World Class Begins at Home (Copland's Quiet City and more)
Feb. 18 - Ode to Joy (spotlighting Brahms and Beethoven)
March 17 - John Morris Russell (Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky with the guest conductor)
April 21 - American Visions (a collaboration with the Akron Art Museum centered on a Roger Zahab world premiere)

Pops:
Nov. 19 - Wicked Divas (dueling divas and the best of Broadway)
Dec. 16 (at 7:30 p.m.) - Holiday Pops (traditional and contemporary favorites under the baton of Carl Topilow)
April 14 (Akron Civic Theatre) - Titanic: The Musical (Maury Yeston and Peter Stone's Tony Award-winning classic)
