Although WKSU listeners hear StoryCorps segments Fridays during Morning Edition, they may not be aware of the full scope of the Peabody Award-winning project. Started in 2003 with a story booth in NYC's Grand Central Station, StoryCorps' mission is "to honor and celebrate one another's lives through listening."
To do this, StoryCorps is going around the country offering everyday people the chance to tell their life story in an uninterrupted, 40-minute conversation. Participants take home a broadcast-quality CD of the interview with copies being archived at the Library of Congress.
From July 17 through 31, StoryCorps comes to the Akron-Summit County Public Library. For two weeks, StoryCorps will be conducting personal interviews as part of its door-to-door initiative. Reserve one of the limited interview appointments beginning Monday, June 22 by calling the ASCPL Special Collections Division at (330) 643-9030 or E-mailing speccollections@akronlibrary.org.
This StoryCorps Door-to-Door is supported by grants from Akron Community Foundation and the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation, and by the City of Akron and WKSU.
