Following the success of Treemendous Treehouses, this summer Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens looks to regional artists and architects for their take on the lowly doghouse. Once a simple shelter for Man's Best Friend, the structures of Barkitecture at Stan Hywet combine creativity and whimsy in nearly a dozen doghouses and works of art. This outdoor exhibit will take full advantage of the former Seiberling estate's extensive grounds. Barkitecture is open May 9 through Oct. 31, with an opening weekend appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog on Mother's Day, May 10. Along with the one-of-a-kind doghouses, Barkitecture includes two programs for dogs – "Joe's Club," dog memberships names after the Seiberling's St. Bernard, and "Woof Walks" that allow dog owners to pay a special fee for their pooch for a Sunday stroll. Prices, times and more information is on the Stan Hywet website: www.StanHywet.org.
Also at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens this summer, Once Upon a Pond in the Corbin Conservatory. This two-year exhibit is an interactive, evolving display that explores the life of a working eco-system through the fish, plants and wildlife that exist in a typical northern Ohio pond. Educational programming around the pond is aimed at ages 4 to 12 and will change throughout the run of the exhibit.
