For the Northeast Ohio community, trips to Blossom Music Center are informal opportunities to enjoy one of the best classical music groups in the world and their special guests. This summer's
Blossom Festival will be no exception as
The Cleveland Orchestra is joined by the Blossom Festival Band, Blossom Orchestra and guests Canadian Brass and Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra in presenting 22 concerts in a ten-week period beginning with the traditional Band concerts with fireworks over the 4th of July holiday weekend.
Season highlights include former festival director Jahja Ling leading an all-Tchaikovsky concert on July 15 and Mozart's Requiem with the Orchestra and Blossom Festival Chorus on July 16, guest conductor Pinchas Steinberg with an evening of opera favorites on Aug. 5 and leading the Orchestra and soloist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, and Bugs Bunny on Broadway on Aug. 12. Cleveland Orchestra Music Director Franz Welser-Most takes the podium on Aug. 25 and 26 with concerts featuring the Bruckner 5 and Debussy's Le Mer respectively. The summer concludes with the Blossom Festival Orchestra presenting a symphonic score to screenings of the 1939 film classic, The Wizard of Oz, on Sept. 2 and 3.
