Meet NPR President and CEO Kevin Klose tonight at Akron’s Weathervane Community Playhouse. Beginning at 7:30pm, Klose will speak on the current state of public radio and the impact of the recent $200 million bequest to NPR by McDonald’s heiress Joan Kroc. He will also accept questions from the audience at the end of his speech. Admission is free, but due to limited seating, please call WKSU at (800) 672-2132 to make your reservation. NPR President since 1998, Klose has presided over a period of intense audience growth for the network of 600 member stations. Klose served as Director of U.S. International Broadcasting, overseeing the U.S. Government’s global radio and television news services from 1997-98 following a long association with Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty that began in 1992. For 25 years, Klose was an editor and reporter at The Washington Post, including acting as Moscow Bureau Chief from 1977-81. He is the author of Russia and the Russians: Inside the Closed Society and co-author of four other books.
