Massimo LaRosa is the orchestra’s principal trombonist. The Cleveland Orchestra’s European tour ends Friday with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10. The final three concerts at Vienna’s Musikverein were sold out.

Vienna is in for a lot more of the Cleveland sound in the future. The orchestra has announced that next year there will be concerts not only at the Musikverein, but also at the Vienna Konzerthaus right across the street.

After Thursday’s rehearsal, some of the musicians had lunch at Vienna’s Naschmarkt. Others visited the Christmas Market outside St. Stephen’s Church, practiced in their hotel rooms, and caught quick naps before the evening concert.
