WKSU EXAMINES AREA NEIGHBORHOODS
SIX-PART NEWS SERIES STUDIES THE DIVERSITY OF NORTHEAST OHIO
Monday September 18, 2006

The week of Sept. 25, the WKSU newsroom turns a spotlight on neighborhoods in the Cleveland, Akron and Canton areas with the six-part series, "Here Goes the Neighborhood." The series focuses on social services and the vast diversity found in a region that is home to rural farms, large urban centers and strong ethnic communities. Segments air on Monday through Friday during WKSU's broadcasts of NPR's "Morning Edition" and the station's evening magazine, "Your Way Home."

Each reporter from the WKSU news staff contributes a different angle on the overall story of the specialized needs of distinctive neighborhoods throughout Northeast Ohio. On Monday, Sept. 25, Kevin Niedermier from WKSU's Cleveland Bureau discovers "Cleveland's Hispanic Neighborhoods," followed by an examination into rural neighborhoods by Daniel Hockensmith from WKSU's Stark/Wayne Counties Bureau. Other segments include a look into "graying" neighborhoods by Renita Jablonski, a report on Ohio's seasonal migrants by Julie Grant, the work of faith-based social service organizations within communities by News Director Dave Pignanelli and Vivian Goodman on the relationship between "Unlikely Neighbors" as downtowns add new upscale housing developments.

Additional information – including links, photos and audio from previously broadcast segments – is available online at www.wksu.org. WKSU airs "Morning Edition" on Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. The half hour-long "Your Way Home" with host Renita Jablonski can be heard weeknights beginning at 6 p.m.

"Here Goes the Neighborhood" is produced with assistance from The Center for Community Solutions.
