WKSU was recognized with 11 awards from Ohio Professional Writers, Inc. (OPW), the state affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW). The prizes were presented by Chapter President Vivian Goodman, a long-time reporter and host at WKSU, during the organization's spring conference at WKSU's broadcast facility in Kent. WKSU staff members who were honored with first-place awards were automatically entered into the national Communications Contest sponsored by NFPW.

First place awards went to:

Radio Broadcast Categories:
•     Prepared Report, Reporter/Producer Vivian Goodman for "Gimme Rewrite, Sweetheart!"

•     Special Reporting Series, News Staff for "Good Jobs in Bad Times."

•     Interview, Reporter/Producer Amanda Rabinowitz for "Terry Pluto on Delonte West."

•     Best Presentation, Goodman for "All Things Considered."

•     Single Subject Campaign, Classical Host Mark Pennell for "Catchy Classical Promos."

Marketing/Public Information Categories:

•     Online Newsletters, Marketing Associate Ann VerWiebe for "Folk Alley Chat."

•     Four-Color Brochure, VerWiebe and Marcus Thomas LLC for "43rd Kent State Folk Festival Program Guide."

•     Multiple News Releases, VerWiebe for "43rd Kent State Folk Festival."

Other awards were presented to:
•     Prepared Report, Rabinowitz for "Palliative Care for Children."

•     Prepared Report, Reporter/Producer Jeff St. Clair for "A Wizard a True Star."

•     Interview, Goodman for "Isabel and Ruben Toledo."

WKSU broadcasts NPR & Classical Music at 89.7 FM, and is a service of Kent State University. WKSU programming is also heard on WKRW 89.3 FM in Wooster, WKRJ 91.5 FM in Dover/New Philadelphia, WKSV 89.1 FM in Thompson, WNRK 90.7 in Norwalk, W298BA 107.5 FM in Boardman, and W239AZ 95.7 FM in Ashland. The station broadcasts four HD Radio channels – adding WKSU-2 Folk Alley, WKSU-3 The Classical Channel and WKSU-4 The News Channel to the analog broadcast schedule. The Classical Channel can also be heard in Cleveland at 107.3 HD-3. The WKSU website is www.wksu.org.
